Georgia Peaches

Firstly, I have to say that I feel kinda bad sitting here writing about my frivolous little cycling adventure when all of you back in Houston are dealing with all that caca. I hope everyone is safe and well.

They don't know the half of it
So it's with a bit of reluctance that I report that today was a truly great day of cycling. The North Georgia countryside is a cycling paradise: good roads, virtually no traffic, beautiful scenery, lots of variety, and of course a few hills for challenge. We also benefitted from great weather. It's been unseasonably cool for the past few days with mid-day temperatures in the mid 80's. Finally, we were aided by a delicious tailwind most of the day.

Our first stop was in a little town called White. The centerpiece of the village is this little emporium that sells everything from ice cream to auto parts to guns. Unfortunately, it being Sunday, they were not open, but the owner was there watering the plants and offered to fill our bottles.

Evidence that we were on a cycling-friendly route came in the form of directional arrows for what were obviously organized rides painted on the road.

Which way for the 3000 mile route?
We also encountered several other cyclists along the route and would hollar "San Francisco!" as we passed. Generally we just got strange looks in return.

We arrived in Lafayette (Georgia) just after 2. Out hotel has shampoo, Wi-Fi, breakfast (quality TBD) and even an outdoor pool. There's nothing like jumping into a pool after a long day of riding.

Today's stats: 93 miles, 5360 feet of climbing.

Enjoying a break in the Johns Mountain Wildlife Management Area

Yes, there are mountains in Georgia
